This week the band’ program will offer reminders of places we can all travel to, hopefully, very soon.  After opening with the famous “Billboard March”, our overture “Enchanted Spaces” was written to commemorate a school and town in Iowa.  After a visit from the Latin themed “The Peanut Vendor”, we will recall a favorite trip for many of us with “The Music of Disneyland”.  John Williams’ haunting “Hymn to the Fallen” will be followed by “Three Celtic Dances” which will have you dancing a jig or at least tapping your toe.  We will conclude with another famous Sousa march, “King Cotton”.

Wednesday, July 21, 2021  (Rain Date: Thursday, July 22)

This week’s concert begins with a march that includes Czechoslovakian themes, Fanfare Sounds.  Our overture, “One With the Wind” celebrates the exhilaration of running. Leroy Anderson, the celebrated composer from the Boston Pops orchestra, gives us “The Girl I left Behind Me”.  We continue our Disney show music presentations this summer with music from the much beloved, “The Beauty and the Beast”.  “Loch Lomond” evokes the countryside of the Scotland.  Our penultimate presentation will be “Symphonic Dance No. 3”, a very popular piece in the repertoire of modern American band literature.  We close as usual with a well-known Sousa march, “The Free Lance”.

What do the following all have in common?  The most prolific composer of the modern American musical, an American composer with over 200 published works to his credit, the conductor of the New York Pops Orchestra, the former conductor of the U.S. Marine Band, a modern American composer with over 4 million hits on YouTube and the March King.  Their compositions are all represented on this evening’s program.  We open with “Fiat Lux” a newly composed fanfare for band followed by Alfred Reed’s “The Hounds of Spring”.  John Bourgeois, the former conductor of the Marine Band has arranged the European march “March of the Belgian Parachutists”.  Hits from several of his musicals are featured in “Sondheim!”.  The evocative “Solas Ane” is next and Steven Reineke from the NY Pops offers “The River of Life”.  We will conclude each week this season with a Sousa march.  Tonight we present “Liberty Loan”.

                Highlights from the 2021 Season!

Wednesday, August 4, 2021  (Rain Date: Thursday, August 5)

Two hits from stage and screen form the pillars of tonight’s program.  The band will present the theme music from the recent Disney Channel Star Wars hit, “The Mandalorian”, followed by highlights from the world-wide, stage and screen blockbuster, “Les Misérables”.  The concert will open with an unusual Sousa march, The Power and Glory.  Our overture this evening will be “Mt. Everest” which captures the epic grandeur and beauty of the world’s tallest mountain.  We also feature our annual performance of the favorite by local composer, Jacques Rizzo, “The Bluer Shade of Green.”  Rhythmic and bold modes, colorful orchestrations and a stunning musical chase combine in the exotic, “Persis”.  We close our final concert of the season with another well-known Sousa march, “El Capitan”.
