The Teaneck Health Department would like to remind dog owners that current dog licenses expire on December 31st. Dog owners have until February 28, 2018 to renew their dog licenses without any penalty. The fee is $13 for not spayed or not neutered and $10 for spayed or neutered. As of March 1, 2018 a $15 late fee will be added.
Residents who have new dogs or who need renewal applications may obtain one by calling 201-837-1600 (x 1500) or on-line at www.teanecknj.gov (under Health Department Documents & Forms). Renewal applications are also being mailed at the end of December. Free rabies shots can be arranged through the Bergen Veterinary Hospital at (201) 837-3470, the Twin Oaks Veterinary Hospital at (201) 530-5833, or the Teaneck Animal Clinic and Spa at (201) 530-5253 (for existing patients only).
Dog owners should also note that per NJ State guidelines rabies shots that expire prior to November 1, 2018 are NOT valid for licensing purposes. License fees can be paid for by check (made out to: Township of Teaneck) or by cash.
**Also, starting in 2018, the Teaneck Health Department will be conducting a door-to-door census to identify unlicensed dogs and cats. Pet owners who are found to be harboring any unlicensed dogs or cats will be issued summonses for non-compliance. Fines range up to $500 per citation for violations of the Township of Teaneck Codes (Section 6-16.1 & 6-42). In accordance with State requirements, sufficient rabies vaccination must be provided in order to obtain a dog or cat license.
