Teaneck is feeling a little lighter…393.8 pounds to be exact!
The Township of Teaneck held its first community Weight Loss Challenge where residents participated in a 10-week weight loss challenge losing 393.8 pounds. The program ran from mid-March to mid-May. This was an effort to make Teaneck a healthier community to inspire residents to lose weight and lead healthier/active lifestyles. Throughout the challenge, participants took part in bi-weekly weigh-ins, seminars, cooking demos, and fitness classes. Participants also received weekly newsletters which provided helpful/useful nutritional, exercise, and wellness tips. Those who have lost at least a pound were eligible to be entered in a prize drawing which included a free year gym membership, Fitbit, and gift cards.
Fellow weight-loss challengers attended the Finale to celebrate their success. Speakers explained that the program does not stop with the end of the challenge and emphasized to live a healthier lifestyle and practice good eating habits all year-round. Furthermore, that the tools needed to get healthy, stay healthy, and to enjoy the process are still available. Throughout the Finale, consolation prizes were given away as well as smaller prizes to answering trivia questions. Challengers also shared their success stories and feedback. Everyone was a winner by making healthy choices and changes.
This motivational program was sponsored by Holy Name Name Medical Center, Glenpointe Spa & Fitness, ShopRite of Hackensack, Community Health Improvement Partnership (CHIP), and the Teaneck Health Department.
The Teaneck Health Department would like to thank the challengers and sponsors for making this a successful program. Stay tuned for next year’s challenge which will follow shortly.
