Contractor Licensing

Owner/occupied single family homeowners may perform the work in their own house. All others must be registered/licensed contractors performing the work that they are licensed for.

If hiring a contractor, you must make sure that they are properly licensed in New Jersey. You can use this site to check their license.

Do not allow a General Contractor to perform any work where a license is required. Do not allow them to convince you that if you take the permit out in your name, that they can do the work.
