Email Scam

The Township has been made aware of an email scam impersonating the Teaneck Planning Board targeting it's applicants. The email (see below) is sent to individuals or businesses which have submitted an application to the Planning Board and are awaiting approval.  Applicant information is public knowledge available in the agenda packet for each meeting. However in the future the Township will take steps to redact exploitable information to prevent further scams.

The email targets the applicant by claiming the application fee should be paid by wire transfer, however other similar scams also request payment by gift card or cryptocurrency. Other ways to tell the email is fake are the incorrect sending email address, use of the word "dear" and the poorly worded department name.

Please delete these emails. The Planning Board only accepts payment in person or through the Spatial Data Logic portal. If you are unsure about an email you have received from the Township, please call our offices at 201-837-1600.
