Township of Teaneck Awarded $900,000 NJDOT Grant for Queen Anne Road Streetscape Improvements

Teaneck, NJ — December 2025 — The Township of Teaneck is proud to announce it has been awarded $900,000 in grant funding through the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program for the Queen Anne Road Streetscape Improvements Project, from State Street to Court Street.

The Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program supports community-based transportation projects that enhance safety, accessibility, aesthetics, and environmental sustainability. This year’s program was highly competitive, with only 43 projects selected statewide.

“Queen Anne Road is a main thoroughfare for our residents, and this funding allows us to make meaningful investments that prioritize pedestrian safety and long-term infrastructure improvements,” said Mayor Mark Schwartz. “We appreciate NJDOT’s continued partnership and support in advancing projects that directly benefit our Teaneck community.”

Township Manager Jaclyn Hashmat emphasized the collaborative effort behind the award, stating,“This grant reflects the strong collaboration between our administration and engineering team. I want to specifically recognize Township Engineer Farah Gilani for her dedication and leadership throughout the application process. Her efforts in developing a comprehensive and competitive submission were instrumental in securing this funding and advancing meaningful improvements along Queen Anne Road.”

The Queen Anne Road Streetscape Improvements Project includes a comprehensive series of infrastructure and aesthetic enhancements designed to create a safer, more accessible, and visually appealing streetscape.

Planned upgrades include:

  • New and upgraded concrete and decorative sidewalks
  • Installation of ADA-compliant detectable warning surfaces and accessible pedestrian signal upgrades
  • Construction of concrete curbing, driveway improvements, and roadway repairs
  • Traffic calming and safety improvements, including a new traffic circle, pavement markings, and rectangular rapid flashing beacons
  • Installation of decorative light poles, benches, trash receptacles, and bicycle racks
  • Street tree planting and landscaping enhancements
  • Drainage improvements to improve roadway performance and longevity

The total estimated construction cost for the project is approximately $1.12 million, inclusive of contingency funding.

The project will advance through final design and NJDOT authorization in accordance with program requirements, with construction to follow upon approval. Additional updates will be shared with the community as milestones are reached.
