Mission Statement

The mission of the Township of Teaneck's Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is to maintain a high level of preparedness, to protect the citizens of the Township of Teaneck; to mitigate loss of life and vital assets prior to, during, and immediate aftermath of a disaster; and to facilitate the speedy recovery of the Townships in the mid and long term intervals following a disaster.

OEM has the statutory responsibility to coordinate all Township emergency response plans. OEM's responsibilities are to identify vulnerabilities, effectively mitigate disasters, public education, respond to all-hazard emergency situations, protect the Township's first responders, ensure continuity of government and business, and to facilitate an effective recovery. OEM will coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies, as well as private entities to develop, maintain, and implement the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP).

OEM is prepared to activate an Emergency Operations Center during any major disaster to allow coordination of all support agencies to provide continuity of services to the public.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact our area. CERT trains residents in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and basic first aid. CERT training prepares you to take care of your family, your neighbors, and then the community.  Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an emergency/disaster.  If you are interested in learning more about CERT, please send an email to Erik Boettcher at Paramuscert@gmail.com or contact the OEM Coordinator.
