Seth B. Kriegel

Chief Seth Kriegel is a proud third-generation resident of Teaneck and a graduate of the Teaneck school system, having attended from kindergarten through 12th grade. With more than two decades of law enforcement experience and deep roots in the community, Chief Kriegel is committed to maintaining the highest standards of public safety and serving the residents of Teaneck.

Chief Kriegel began his career with the Teaneck Police Department in 2003 and has served in a variety of assignments throughout the department. Prior to being appointed Chief of Police, he served as Deputy Chief, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the department and providing leadership and direction to its sworn and civilian personnel. He previously served as Captain and Commander of the Investigations Division, where he oversaw criminal investigations, supervised the Professional Standards Unit, and served as the department’s Public Information Officer. In that role, he was responsible for ensuring compliance with Attorney General guidelines, overseeing background investigations, and maintaining the integrity of the department’s internal affairs processes.

Throughout his career with the Teaneck Police Department, Chief Kriegel has held numerous supervisory and command positions, including Detective Lieutenant and Commander of the Juvenile Bureau, where he oversaw juvenile and bias-related investigations; Lieutenant in the Patrol Division, where he served as a Tour Commander and supervised daily patrol operations; and Detective Sergeant in the Detective Bureau, where he led detectives conducting a wide range of criminal investigations.

Chief Kriegel is a graduate of the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police Command & Leadership Academy, a prestigious program focused on developing police executives and future leaders. He holds a Master of Administrative Science degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he graduated summa cum laude, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Behavioral Science/Criminal Justice from York College of Pennsylvania, where he also graduated summa cum laude.

Throughout his career, Chief Kriegel has received numerous awards and commendations for his service. His professional experience, longstanding connection to Teaneck, and commitment to the community guide his approach to leadership. As Chief of Police, he is focused on maintaining a professional and accountable police department, enhancing public safety, supporting the department’s personnel, and fostering positive relationships between the Police Department and the community it serves.
