The Township of Teaneck is accepting applications for a full time Assistant Superintendent of Recreation. Under direction of the Superintendent, plans, promotes, organizes and administers a comprehensive recreation service for the community. Represents the Superintendent at conferences, meetings, and other functions; does other related duties as required. Assists the Superintendent in promotion and development of program activities, personnel matters, and preparation of budget estimates. Studies community recreation needs and develops immediate and long-range plans to meet these needs. Establishes and maintains cooperative planning and working relationships with other local community agencies and interested individuals as directed by the Superintendent. Organizes, trains, and supervises subordinates, and provides them with needed advice and assistance. Directs the acquisition, design, construction, and operation of recreation facilities under the direction of the Superintendent. Prepares reports and correspondence as needed.

Requirement: 7 years of professional experience in recreation work involving planning, promoting, organizing, and/or directing a comprehensive recreation service or program for a community, three (3) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity or Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; and four (4) years of the above-mentioned professional experience which must have been in a supervisory capacity. The Township of Teaneck is seeking a skilled Plumber to join our Building Maintenance Department. This full-time position is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems across township buildings and facilities.

Responsibilities:

• Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, water heaters, and drainage systems.

• Diagnose plumbing issues and perform necessary repairs, replacements, or upgrades.

• Ensure all plumbing work complies with local and state building codes.

• Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on township plumbing systems.

• Work collaboratively with other maintenance personnel to address facility needs.

• Respond to emergency plumbing situations as needed.

• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.

Qualifications:

• Prior experience as a plumber, preferably in a municipal or commercial setting.

• Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.

The Township of Teaneck is seeking a qualified Tree Climber to join our Department of Public Works. This is a full-time position responsible for tree maintenance and removal throughout the township. 

Responsibilities: 

• Perform tree climbing, pruning, and removal using ropes, harnesses, and aerial lifts. 

• Operate and maintain chainsaws, chippers, and other tree maintenance equipment. 

• Inspect trees for signs of disease, decay, or structural weakness. 

• Assist in storm damage cleanup and emergency tree removal. 

• Maintain township parks, streets, and public spaces by ensuring safe and healthy tree growth. 

• Follow safety procedures and guidelines set by the township and industry standards. 

Qualifications: 

• Prior experience in tree climbing, arboriculture, or a related field required. 

• Knowledge of tree species, pruning techniques, and safety procedures. 

• Ability to operate and maintain tree care equipment. 

• Valid New Jersey Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required. 

• Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks. 

• Certification in arboriculture or tree climbing (such as ISA Certified Arborist) is a plus.

Department of Public Works (DPW) Is accepting applications for the position of full-time laborer for the Public Works Department with building trades experience. Responsibilities include but are not limited to heavy and light duty equipment operation, snow removal, road department maintenance, various other DPW tasks. The Township of Teaneck is currently seeking applicants for a Part-Time Fire Inspector in the Fire Prevention Bureau.

Under the direction of the Fire Official, the Fire Inspector (Fire Prevention Specialist) conducts fire inspections of buildings and premises to identify and eliminate fire hazards, enforce the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code, and educate the public on fire safety practices. Work includes initial and follow-up inspections, report writing, code enforcement, and collaboration with other departments and the public.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conduct Fire Inspections

• Enforce fire code regulations related to life hazard and non-life hazard uses

• Verify operability of fire alarms, suppression systems, and egress pathways

• Issue violation notices, penalty orders, and follow through on enforcement

• Prepare inspection reports, maintain files, and document code compliance status

• Investigate complaints of fire code violations or hazardous conditions

• Educate property owners, tenants, and staff on fire safety and code requirements

• Participate in fire prevention programs or community outreach as needed

• Collaborate with the fire department, construction officials, and municipal staff

Minimum Requirements:

• Valid New Jersey Fire Inspector Certification issued by the NJ Department of Community AffairsValid New Jersey Driver’s License

• High school diploma or GED

• Able to work a minimum of 10 hours a week

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

• Strong working knowledge of the NJ Uniform Fire Code and referenced standards

• Experience conducting fire inspections and preparing detailed inspection reports

• Proficiency with inspection software and municipal database systems

• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal

• Ability to interpret building plans and identify egress, suppression, and alarm deficiencies

• Capable of independent fieldwork and prioritizing inspection tasks

• Skilled in public interaction, code explanation, and hazard mitigation

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

• Climb ladders/stairs, crawl in confined spaces, and lift up to 75 lbs.

• Work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including adverse weather conditions

• Exposure to dust, smoke, fumes, and hazardous materials may occur

• Clear vision, hearing, and communication required for safe performance of duties

• Use of computers, radios, inspection equipment, and mobile reporting tools required

The Township of Teaneck is seeking a full-time Technical Assistant to the Construction Official.  This position is the main point of contact for the Building Department.  Responsibilities include reviewing applications and processing construction and zoning permits, determining applicable fees, scheduling inspections, providing information and maintaining records.  The successful candidate must demonstrate professionalism and strong customer service skills, be able to work independently, and be organized and detail oriented. Requires a NJDCA Technical Assistant Certification or willingness to obtain. Knowledge of the provisions of the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code as they relate to the activities of the office, required. Zoning/Planning Board experience a plus.  Knowledge of Spatial Data Logic software is preferred.   Salary D.O.Q.
